Zigbee covers Indian modular switch plates, fan regulators, curtain motors and geyser controllers — the categories an Indian home actually buys — from brands with a local service path. Z-Wave device choice here is thin and skewed towards locks and sensors, and much of it arrives as imports. A protocol you cannot buy the right form factor in is not a real option, however good the radio is.

For most Indian homes, Zigbee. It is cheaper per device, far easier to buy and service here, and the mesh is strong enough once you have a few mains-powered devices in it. Choose Z-Wave when the building is fighting you — thick masonry walls, long runs, or a duplex where 2.4 GHz simply does not carry — and accept that you will be ordering specific regional variants.
